Sgt. Preston wasn’t the only Mountie on the radio. Blair of the Mounties premiered on January 31, 1938. The final of the 15 minute episodes played on October 3, 1938. The series of 31 episodes was written and starred Col. Rhys Davies with Jack Abbott as his constable. The Mounties in this series did not remain inside Canada’s frosty borders but traveled to other countries like Great Britain. The show did not prove popular enough for a second year but mostly inspired Challenge of the Yukon, the radio show that gave us Sgt. Preston in January 1939.
